Summary. We characterize the world in a wide range of methods: by means of percepts, ideas, propositional attitudes, phrases, numerals, recordings, musical scores, pictures, diagrams, mimetic work, and so forth. A few of these representations are psychological. It’s customary for philosophers to differentiate two essential sorts of psychological representations: perceptual illustration (e.g., imaginative and prescient, auditory, tactile) and conceptual illustration. This essay presupposes a model of this dichotomy and explores the way in which wherein an additional type of illustration – procedural illustration – represents. It’s argued that, in some essential respects, procedural representations characterize otherwise from each purely conceptual representations and purely perceptual representations. Though procedural representations, similar to conceptual and perceptual representations, contain modes of presentation, their modes of presentation are distinctively sensible, in a way which I’ll make clear. It’s argued that an understanding of this form of sensible illustration has essential penalties for the controversy on the character of know-how.
